On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1919, hostilities during World War I ceased. To celebrate the end to what was then thought to be the “war to end all war,” Armistice Day was declared a national holiday by President Woodrow Wilson.
Today, we celebrate Veterans Day to honor those men and women who have served our country. I am reminded of the sacrifices, both their families and themselves, make everyday to support our freedom. We honor those who have given their lives to protect our freedom.
My father served our country as an Army man in the 40s at the height of World War II. In that moment, I couldn’t have been more proud of my hero. He returned from the war to a country determined to push forward.
Today, we celebrate the past and look forward to the future.
Happy Veterans Day!
